I’ve felt very motivated with the start of the new year. I’ve created some goals that I’m excited about, but I’m having a really hard time focusing since the year started. Lately, when I sit in front of the computer and try to do one task, I seem to get distracted and end off down the rabbit hole of the internet. Actually, since I started blogging I’ve found this to happen. There is so much to learn about the million different aspects of blogging and it is so easy to get sucked into research instead of writing. So I’m choosing as my word of the year, “FOCUS”
I need to focus on one task at a time: My mind is always thinking up new ideas and looking up new things. I lose myself too often in the planning and researching rather than the doing. I need more doing and less looking. I need to read whole articles instead of pinning every link provided in the article.I get a million tabs open at once and cannot even remember which article I started on. I need to focus on one topic and finish that search or reading and then move to a new one.
I need to focus on enjoying myself in the moment: It is so hard for me to just enjoy the moment, I’m worried about what is next. I worry about what time it is, or how the day is being spent, more so than really and truly enjoying that moment. I need to be able to relax and enjoy what is in front of me.
I need to focus on the process: I can’t just jump to the end. I want everything to be perfect now and it is hard for me to work through the process and steps needed to get there. I need to learn to focus on the steps that take me to the destination.
I have a lot I want to learn and achieve this year and without focus I’m never going to get there!
This word of the year post is part of The Nectar Collective’s “The Creative Collective” initiative.
Melyssa has come up with 23 really cool creative activities for the year, that she will showcase every first and third Wednesday of the month. I plan on participating in all 23 and will be posting my participation on the Monday before her features, so jump over to her site to see what is in store for the year!
P.S. I realize that a graphic is not exactly what Melyssa might have had in mind with this project but one of my goals for 2014 is to expand my graphic design skills…so I felt like this is fitting in its own way…and I did print it out to hang up.
