Welcome to our very first, The School of Life Linkup, a collaboration with two of my favorite blogging ladies, Shannon at Brass Honey and Miriam at Farm Girl. Every Sunday we will be linking up to share life lessons big or small. Every week is an opportunity to learn something new. Much like we all have a story to tell…we all have life lessons to share too. - Quality over quantity. This is true with almost everything….food, drinking, lip gloss…and also friends. Life’s too short to drink bad beer or waste time on people who don’t show you respect/return kindness/encourage you.
- I’m a strong believer in giving credit where credit is due. Recognizing someone for doing a good job, inspiring you, or anything else, does not diminish your contribution or creation. Speaking of which, I want to say thank you, to Shannon for reaching out and including me on this project. The School of Life Lessons is her idea, and I’m thrilled to get to be included. Shannon and Miriam are two ladies that truly inspire and amaze me…they both have shared stories that show bravery, honesty, and a depth of character that I don’t see everyday. If you haven’t gotten to know them, make sure to fix that now 🙂 seriously, they both have so much to share.
- Buying a car always takes about 12 times longer than expected. Bring snacks and entertainment. Also, 7 hours at the dealership will make you be a slacker and not have the energy to put pretty pictures or funny gifs into your blog post…sorry guys next time I promise! PLEASE, don’t judge the whole linkup on my first post 😉

Quality over quantity for sure. And I definitely agree for friends. I’m the kind of person who feels that I can’t say no to engagements at times when really I don’t wanna go or be friends with someone. Definitely something I struggle with. And trying to eliminate the negative is difficult.
Being in Australia now with a visit home booked I’ve had a lot of time to consider who my ‘real’ friends are and who I’d like to catch up with and spend my short time there with. I’m not bitter over people not staying in touch while I’ve been here as I guess it’s as much my fault as it is theirs and life gets in the way a bit. But I definitely know who I’ll be spending my time with.
Giving credit is so important, especially in the workplace. Sometimes it can be the little boost that a co-worker needs to feel that they are valued. Glenn and I run a small mining manufacturing site here and we deal direct with our Manager whereas the guys on the floor don’t. I always make a point of saying ‘yeah X did this’ etc when someone has helped me out.I’m also always cery careful of how I ask people to do things, saying things like ‘can you…will you…’ instead of ‘do this’. And saying please and thank you when they do. It’s the little things right?

same thing for buying a home. it’s a really annoying process. i think when you hit your 30s quality becomes more and more important. ESP with people.
I agree with your top 2 lessons- although I haven’t experienced the long wait in buying a new car. I’ve been in and out of there! However, I haven’t bought a car in over 6 years. And how old of a post are we talking about here? Because I have some life lessons posts, but they are from months or a year ago! -Jess L
Could not agree more on these lessons! And car shopping is awful! I bought my last vehicle in 2008 and I still remember how long it took. Snacks are a must.

Yes, quality definitely over quantity. But be able to throw out “moderation” every once in awhile 🙂 x
I love your lessons. Moderation is key to anything. Also giving credit to people. You are right it does not diminish the work you did.
I like this idea but I wish it wasn’t on a Sunday! Hopefully I will think to go linkup any posts that fit, even if it is late!
And I do wonder why life feels like a competition sometimes – like you can’t always acknowledge the good in others.It’s ugly and I don’t like it and I want to be better about it!
What a cool linkup! Love this, and love the lessons you’ve learned. Thankfully, I’ve only purchased one car in my life and I plan to keep it until it doesn’t run anymore. IT did take TONS of research (which my lovely father did most of the work on) and an ENTIRE DAY of dealership hopping.
I hate when someone takes credit for something that isn’t theirs! And I absolutely agree, quality is much better than quantity…unless we’re talking about money, then I just want lots of it!

Ugh, why does the car thing take SO LONG. Even when I walk in and say this is what I want and this is what I can pay, is this doable or not? It takes FOREVER
