Clear The List: February 2016

January 31, 2016 by Mariah 21 Comments

February-2016-Clear-The-List

Hello!! I’ve missed all of my blogging peeps! January was an awesome month, it flew by. Of course, when have I not said that about a month? It did seem to be over quickly, but not in a hazy way as some months. More like each day was filled full and I was kicking-ass. I’m so scared about losing the motivation I had in January, because January felt good. I’ve been super focused on BHG. I’ve been so busy, and feeling like I don’t have enough time to do it all but in a good way. This is why I’ve been quiet here 🙁 but I need to focus and not split my energy for now. When I get some more of my projects/ideas completed then I will have more time to be here. The really funny thing is that my pageviews have doubled in the last several months, isn’t that just how it works out. I do miss you guys and hope you do not think I’ve abandoned you all.

It’s the beginning of the month so you know what time it is, Clear The List time. Join me and my co-hosts, Esther from Local Adventurer, Lindsay from Lindsay Does Languages, and Shannon from Eurolinguiste in encouraging each other in reaching our goals, and #clearthelist. Linkup your goal setting post below and cheer your fellow bloggers on with their goals.

But first, let’s talk January.

January was an excellent month in terms of motivation and productivity. Was my habit tracker filled out perfectly? No, but I feel good about what I was able to get done and my focus. We also took a super awesome last minute trip to Portland Oregon this month. I LOVED Portland, and eventually I will share our trip in a post…especially since we had such awesome food 🙂

Below are my filled in sheets. Though one of the problems with the weekly sheets is I totally forgot to fill it in, oops. I’m sharing it but it is not really a true accounting. I’ve got to get better at using it, but regardless it is a good reminder of what I should be doing. The “get out” on the weekly is working from outside the house (like at a coffeeshop), which I really have been enjoying. Just wanted to clarify in case you think I only left the house twice this month LOL. Though again even that was more than twice I just didn’t fill it in.

The Daily Habit Completed January
The Weekly Habit Completed January

The use of the daily journal is working pretty well, but I do find it hard to remember to document my day, everyday. I’ve been really focused lately, so I don’t feel like I’m wasting as much time day to day, or find myself trying to figure out what I should work on. I’ve found a good direction/focus (at least for now).

I’ve found that if I don’t get my yoga done in the morning then I usually don’t find time to fit it in later, so that is something I’m going to try to be more conscious of next month. Sidenote: Yoga with Adriene this past month released a 30-day Yoga Camp series, which I am loving. If any of you are thinking about trying out yoga, her videos are such a good place to start (I know I’ve said it before and I’m going to keep saying it) 🙂 Just getting started and into a routine is half the challenge and I think her videos just make it so easy, especially the 30-day series, since you don’t have to “find” the next video to try.

February Goals

Guys I hate to disappoint you but they are basically the same as January. I’m just working super hard on making BHG work. I know February is going to feel like a very short month, and honestly most of it is already booked. I would love to get two hikes in, but we only made it once in January and that is very likely the case for February too 🙁 The weather was not great on many weekends in January, and I know we have limited availability on weekends this coming month. On the tracker I’ve included social media, and the reason that is there is to: 1. make sure I’m being consistent 2. using social media intentional (ie not random scrolling). Again, broken into daily and weekly sheets. Here is a blank tracker sheet if you want to start your own.

February-Daily-Habit-List
February-The-Weekly-Habit-List
My main goal for February (in addition to the above routines), is to stay focused and try to maintain the same motivation I have felt throughout January. A big part of that for me is making sure I schedule out my day the day before, and I reach my top three daily goals.

Clear The List: November Goals

Clear The List a linkup of goal setters

Another month, another list of goals 🙂 Join me and my co-hosts, Esther from Local Adventurer, Lindsay from Lindsay Does Languages, and Shannon from Eurolinguiste in encouraging each other in reaching our goals, and #clearthelist. Linkup your goal setting post below and cheer your fellow bloggers on with their goals.

Clear The List

October was a pretty good month, though I did not successfully get it all checked off. Let’s see how I did on the October Goals:

Habit Tracking

October Daily Tracker

Some of these I did great on, and some well, clearly not so much. Yoga and my 365 photo project I feel really good about. I love Instagram:) and really enjoyed getting back to posting there. The whole walking thing and morning routine I sucked at this month. I’m going to keep the habit tracker going and adding “commenting on 5 blog posts” as a habit as well. Also, I know it is a total mess, maybe next month I will be able to be neater. I considered re-doing it to be pretty, but…

Bloom Hustle Grow…press go

  • Publish website Bloom Hustle Grow…I did it!! You guys can take a look
  • Start marketing…I actually have a lot more to get in place, before I wanted to start really focusing on marketing.

FBB

  • Get back to blogging schedule (2 a week)…FAIL
  • Get back to reading & commenting…FAIL

Create/Learn

  • Recipe post…I did the Pink Peppercorn G+T. I love taking cocktail pictures!
  • Take one Skillshare class…FAIL

Organize

  • Get office as organized as possible (at least to where I want to work at the desk again)…It’s much better, I think it is pretty good. Sitting down working in there, well….

Discover

Get back to exploring San Diego!! We need to get back out there:

  • Use Groupon for kayaking….Totally did this, even though our first attempt was rescheduled because of rain.
  • Go for a hike…Yes, and it was killer. Short but hard. My ankles were killing me for days after.
  • Dinner at The Smoking Goat…Did it, but meh.
  • One new brewery…Of course we did 🙂 You can see where we went in this month’s Discovering San Diego.

November Goals

Bloom Hustle Grow

  • Market Market Market…try to get my first client.
  • Work on Social Media for BHG.

FBB

  • Get editorial calendar worked out and work on posts, again 2 a week.
  • Keep engaged on Social Media.

Create/Learn

  • Cocktail Post
  • Skillshare Course

Life

  • Try working from coffeeshop or other space at least once a week. I think this might be a good strategy for me to try out to keep me focused on more “boring” tasks.
  • Meet P for lunch or breakfast at least once this month. Go to weeknight dinner at one new restaurant.
  • Plan a trip
  • Start a health journal + time tracking. After reading I Know How She Does It*, I was inspired to track my time for the month of November. I want to be more intentional with how I’m using my time. So, this is the first step. I think I’m going to use a combination of the Hours app and paper.

What are you looking forward to in November?

Maximize Your Month + August Goals

August 3, 2015 by Mariah 37 Comments

Maximize-Your-Month-August-Goals-2015

This whole year I’ve felt lost, paralyzed, scared, and just well directionless. I’ve been trying to figure out the next steps in my life; what I should be doing to make money. I just felt so overwhelmed by it all and what I should focus on. Everyone talks about their passion and finding their passion, and well I wasn’t sure I would feel that pull or be able to commit to a new path. I’ve been desperately trying to figure out what I wanted to do.

I actually feel knots in my stomach typing this out and saying it out loud right now. I’m afraid of losing the motivation or momentum or confidence or well I’m afraid of everything. I just started working on the idea and I’m not sure exactly what form it will take, but I’ve decided (I think) my path is to help other creatives/entrepreneurs. I’ve had this desire for some time to have my own business and to follow in the entrepreneurial footsteps. Frankly, this whole year I’ve been cycling through so many ideas and directions of what skills I could develop or utilize to make that happen. Then while reading The Art of Work by Jeff Goins it just clicked. I think my role is supporting and nourishing other businesses…that is my business. I’ve had several meetings this year where I’ve totally geeked out about other peoples’ ideas/businesses. I get so excited when people say they are starting their own entrepreneurial endeavors, and I ask WAY too many questions and offer a ton of suggestions. I’ve been in so many situations where I think I scare them a little with all the questions and get a lot of “umm, haven’t thought of that, haven’t decided that”. Plus business is my background/education, it’s about time I use that MBA 🙂 It fits in so many ways, it clicked.

What do they say, if you are really serious about something you have to put it out into the universe. Well, here it is. I know it’s extremely vague right now, but for the first time in a very long time I feel a direction/a pull. So I’m sharing, I’m putting it out there. I’m scared and excited.

I’m going to share the journey here, because FBB is my home. It’s the space that has brought me real life friends and so many other connections that have enriched my life. I’m amazed at what a supportive and caring community blogging really is. It has truly shown me so much, made me step more outside myself, face insecurities and work through them. I love my blog, and honestly if feels so much like home that it has been hard for me to grow it as a “business” and well now I realize why. I do have a passion for food and travel (and booze), but I don’t want to “sell” it. The friends/readers on these pages and the stories are too me, too real for me to step back and treat it like a brand. Basically, FBB will not change, and I plan on doing the same types of posts I’ve been doing in this space. I will grow a new space for wherever the path leads, but this space will continue to be my sounding board. Ok, this was an insanely long and weird post, thanks for sticking it out with me. 🙂

I’m going straight into my August goals, I did a mini-recap of July in a post yesterday. And I feel like I did check off my main but less specific goal of “I’m giving myself July to not check things off per say, but figure them out. I need a re-set month.” I do feel like I found a direction, I just hope I keep it and can make it work.

August Goals

  • Have a great time on the two trips we do have planned in August, Palm Springs & Denver. Plan trip to SF in September (for reals) or decide it will be pushed to next year??
  • Step up the Fitbit game. Walk Sam at least 3 days a week for 1 mile.
  • Make sure to keep up with yoga or other fitness activity, goal 4 times a week (not including the above mentioned walks).
  • Work my ass off towards my new project, I know vague but I’m not ready to share more….my goal is to be able to share more next month!! I have a huge to-do list already written up 🙂

What are your goals for August?

We’d love for you to a part of our community so that we can help inspire one another to achieve our goals. You can join us by adding a link to your own goal post below. We all have things we want to get out of our month, so why not maximize your month with us and #clearthelist. We will be checking back in with you the first Monday of every month.

So let’s see how my June goals went and then onto July goals.

June Re-cap

Exercise

  • Yoga, yoga, yoga 🙂

I’ve re-started Adriene’s 30 Days of Yoga. I did not make it to a class still, but I’ve been good about getting in 3 plus days a week. I’m beginning to feel back into the groove with it.

  • Get back into the Fitbit steps game. I’ve been slacking on this, I think part of it is because the weather has been blah. Goals is 50,000 steps a week.

Totally sucked at this one, plus for two-weeks the battery died and I didn’t realize it.

  • Get a hike in or better yet two 🙂

Yes, two!! I’m really enjoying hiking as a form of exercise. I’ll be sharing more about those in separate posts.

Planning

  • TRIPS

LA is a go for next month. Yay! Still need to finalize San Francisco.

  • Idea journal and plans of action

Umm, did I really write this as a goal? :p

Routine

  • Develop a morning routine. Get up out of bed by 6:30 am.

No. I’m going to keep trying. My sleeping was terrible this month, I have trouble staying asleep. I’ve had sleep problems off and on since we have moved.

  • Better organize use of time.

No so much. I even sucked at using my planner this month.

  • Pick one project or action item to work on a day and schedule one or two hours just for that item.

Again, not so much.

Create

  • Recipe shoot/post

Yes, coming soon.

  • Work on design projects

Did the 30 day logo challenge on Skillshare

  • Learn more about Typology

Nope.

Blog

  • Find a blog to sponsor

Yes!! I did an ad on Montgomery Fest. I felt like it was fate, I saw she was running a sale for a spot and grabbed it. It was a good purchase. Annie did a nice job of giving me social media love. This tweet in particular:

Heading to San Diego this summer? Check out @foodboozebags Discovering San Diego column for some sweet local recs! http://t.co/Y7gyb758pq

— Annie Montgomery (@MontgomeryFest) June 19, 2015

I also had a super fabulous surprise from Katie of The Florkens who offered me a spot on their page. Thank you Katie!! And I got to participate in Kristin’s Global Food series, I really enjoyed putting together this post.

  • Reformat pictures on at at least 5 prior posts

Ummm…crickets

June 365 Project June 2015 365 Project Favorites Above are my favorites pictures from this month. Below are my favorite memories from this month, so not the picture per say, but what the picture represents. I waver between using the 365 project for picture practice or for gratitude/memory keeping. I do what I want 🙂 June 2015 365 Favorite Memories 1. Friday FunDay with Shannon. We wandered around Little Italy drinking, eating, and talking. It was SO fun! 2. You & Me Day. P took off a Friday in June, and planned a whole day for us. It was the best ♥ 3. June 26, 2015. A wrong was righted and America celebrated in color. Love won and rights were granted to our fellow Americans, that they should never have been denied in the first place. I was so happy to get to witness this historical day. June 2015 365 Project I June 2015 365 Project II

July Goals

I’m going to go light on goals this month. July is already a bit busy and we haven’t’ even started it yet 🙂 I’m excited for July as it contains a jaunt to LA and friends! I’m just going to be easy with my time and try to enjoy the moment. I’m giving myself July to not check things off per say, but figure them out. I need a re-set month.

Exercise

Hiking & Yoga, Yoga & Hiking 🙂

  • Finish Adriene’s 30 day challenge.
  • Try paddle boarding.
  • At least 2 hikes.

Planning

  • Finalize trip to SF.
  • Keep working on that morning routine. Rise and shine by 6:30.
  • Work on a plan/goals for August.

Create

  • I’ve decided to start a Creative Sundays series on the blog. So each Sunday I will share something I’ve done that is week that I think is creative. It will be a very mixed bag 🙂 I’m going to share, even when I’m not 100% happy with the product or progress. I’m going to try not to censor too much, and just put it out there.

Blog

  • Get into a better routine of commenting. Comment on at least 5 blogs a day during the week.
  • Reformat pictures on at least two prior posts.
  • Make business cards.
