We are now moving into the make-up portion of the Spring Clean Your Beauty Routine series. I’m far from an expert on make-up. I use it, but my routine is (and always has been) fairly simple. I never understood how to properly apply a smoky eye or use bronzer, I’m just not that girl. I didn’t even know that contouring your whole face was a common make-up practice until I saw it on Pinterest. Do some people really do this everyday?
I have always worn foundation, I am one of those that will not leave the house without it. I wore Bareminerals for years, until I started cleaning up my make-up. Honestly, it would not have been at the top of my list to change out, but one of my friends mentioned to me she didn’t use it because of the risk associated with breathing it in. I had never thought of that before. One of the great claims of Bareminerals is that it contains SPF, which I was like great, two-birds with one stone! Bareminerals contain Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide in a very fine dust form and both of these ingredients come with warnings not to be inhaled and to be careful of the dust if handling. This is just something to think about, and I wanted to share because it really got me thinking when my friend shared it with me (thanks T). Some of the powder forms of the below contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, so this is something to keep in mind.
I am not including blush or bronzer in my make-up section but most of these brands will have a blush or bronzer option if you look around. I have noticed a few companies offer products that could be for lips or face, so I will include some of those in the next section.

Mascara
Mascara is a hard one for me and I feel like a lot of reviews mention this as a hard product to replace. I think women get quite attached to their mascara brands or is that just me. I really like the tubing mascara but I don’t think a very clean one of those is coming out soon 🙂 I like the tubing mascara because it does not flake and it is easy to remove. I’m still experimenting with finding what works.
W3LL People Mascara
Kjaer Weis Mascara
Ava Anderson Mascara
100% Pure Mascara
Afterglow Mascara
Tarte Mascara: not the cleanest but I tried it and stays well and does a nice job of adding volume
Jane Iredale Mascara
Physicians Formula Mascara
Rejuva Minerals Mascara
RMS Mascara
ILIA Mascara: this is one I have currently, and I’m not in love. It stays well enough though sometimes I still get a few flakes. It doesn’t give me enough volume.

Eye Shadow
I personally dislike the loose powder eye shadow but I’ve included various options here.
Kjaer Weis Eye Shadow: I bought purple in this and really like it, it is pricey but you should note that you can get refills for about half the initial price http://kjaerweis.com/shop/refills.html/
Honeybee Gardens Eye Makeup
W3LL People Eye Shadow
100% Pure Eye Shadow
Afterglow Eye Shadow
Jane Iredale Eye Shadow
Alima Pure Eye Shadow
Sally B’s B Smudged
RMS Living Luminizer: I really like this product, it provides a brightening effect but not glittery. They also carry eyeshadow.

Foundation
Here is a short article on how to choose the right foundation for your skin, which gives a little more information on some of the brands mentioned below. Spirit Beauty Lounge offers samples for purchase, just make sure of what you want to add because you can not edit your samples and you have to call to make changes. The samples are very small but I was able to get a at least a full face out of the foundation samples. Some of the brand sites also offer samples for purchase as well so make sure to look around.
Kjaer Weis Foundation (refills are also offered for this too)
W3LL People Stick Foundation and Powder: I currently use the Narcissist 2, which works good but I’m not in love. The 2 is a bit peachy for me and I should have went with the 3. It covers but requires some building and I usually do a swipe of loose powder over it.
100% Pure Foundation and Powder
Vapour Organic Beauty Foundation
Ecco Bella
Powder
Juice Beauty Finishing Powder: I like this powder and it does not contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. I found it a little drying on my old lady winter skin but in the summer it is great. I pair it with their cc cream to provide sun protection , the cc cream gives pretty much zero coverage in terms of using it as a foundation.
Rejuva Minerals Foundation (does not have zinc oxide or titanium dioxide). I have tried this powder and was not that impressed, it seemed to settle into lines a bit.
Ava Anderson Foundation
Alima Pure Powder
Faerie Organic Foundation
